In recent years, the Internet has become proliferated with all kinds of web sites. Many are genealogy-related, and some should not be accepted as good research material. Much of it is compiled data, that is data that has been transcribed from original documents by one or more individuals. Researchers are cautioned to look at transcribed material with scrutiny. The more data is transferred from one source to another, the greater the chance that mistakes will be made. Even as information was given to census enumerators, mistakes were made. The same holds true in almost all public records. So even primary documents should be corroborated when possible. With that in mind, here is a list of online sources that may be useful.
