Nishani Frazier Joins WRHS

Nishani Frazier joined the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) of Cleveland, Ohio on Feb. 1, 2003 as Associate Curator for African American History. AAGS members had the chance to meet Miss Frazier at WRHS African American Archives Auxiliary's March 1st Welcome Reception. The new Associate Curator will be involved with implementing public programs and exhibitions, soliciting collections and promoting programs throughout the African American community.

A doctoral student at Columbia University, she has served as special assistant to Dr. John Hope Franklin, a renowned author, distinguished professor of history, and recipient of numerous honors for his African American research and publications.

Full of energy and ideas, Miss Frazier shared her immediate focus: (1) to update the current collection and increase volunteerism; (2) to build up a collection on the Civil Rights Movement (Black Power, Black Nationalists, etc.); and (3) to gather material related to the Million Man March (including capturing the "voices of the activists") for the upcoming 10-year anniversary. She also expressed a willingness to walk "hand-in-hand" with local churches, groups such as AAGS, and the community as a whole to take the Archives to a higher level.
