June 21, 2003 AAGS took part in the 8th Annual Juneteenth Community
Celebration held at the African-American Museum of Cleveland.
The event began with a drum call by the Senegalese National Dance
Association of Ohio, followed by libations, then an original skit entitled
"Dis Wuz Marster Kitchen". The reenactment (complete with a horse-ridden
delivery of the 'proclamation' abolishing slavery) set the stage for a day
of song, dance, education and activities for both young and old.
Sumayah Ali (poet/griot), Siga Diop (writer), and Karen Troy-Diatta (African-American Museum Program Coordinator).
