September 23, 2006 - Tim Pinnick speaks on Coal Mine Research
Photo of Tim Pinnick (on right) with local cousin Richard McCain. Mr. Pinnick joined us to present “Coal Dust in Your Veins: Tips, Strategies and Resources to Bring Your Coal Mining Ancestors to the Surface.” An engaging speaker, Tim helped us make the connection of the railroad, coal, and steel industries. He highlighted the importance of strike/lockout documentation, then explained and pointed us in the direction of significant resources (including government documents, state mine inspector reports, university special collections, labor newspapers, and oral histories). Tim’s enthusiasm spurred us to dig through mining records whether or not we had known ancestors in the profession. We look forward to another visit, on another captivating topic.

In attendance for the presentation was Stacie Murry, of East Cuyahoga County Genealogical Society, who informed us about a notable cemetery record transcription project that ECCGS is involved with, in alliance with the City of Cleveland.”
